Windshield Pit Repairs


If your vehicle has recently suffered damage to your windshield or you have previous damage you might be wondering what to do about it, or if you can get it fixed. Rocks, pieces of metal or glass and sand can often cause divots in windshield glass known as pits.

Depending on the size and type of the damage, it may be possible to have your windshield fixed with a pit repair, which prevents further cracking and can save you for having to replace your windshield. A pit repair is a procedure in which your automotive technician pulls the pit with a vacuum, injects resin into the crack before sealing it and finally curing it with a UV light.

Pit repairs can often be done if a crack is less 5" long, or a divot is less than 1cm and has not incurred major splintering of the glass. Crack or pits longer or larger can sometimes be repaired however often it is cheaper to have the entire windshield replaced.

Getting cracks or pits fixed is an important for the structural integrity of the car and the safety of all occupants.

Often times, pit repairs are covered by your car insurance if you have full coverage and/or glass protection. Check with your insurance company to see if you are eligible.

Even if your insurance won't cover a pit repair it is getting them fixed quickly can help save you the cost of a windshield in the long run.
